THE SCHOOL

OUR VENUE

Edinburgh Festival Ballet & School is based in Saint Stephen’s Theatre in the heart of the city. The Grade A-listed building, which was designed by William Playfair, is one of Edinburgh’s most iconic venues and features the newly refurbished ‘Ashton Hall’, one of Scotland’s largest dance spaces.

Peter is using the same high level teaching structure and a specialised Syllabus as when he founded English National Ballet School, The Royal Danish Ballet School in Holstebro (DK). The faculty consists of professional dancers, teachers, directors and ballet critics and historians/scholars.

Teaching is done by the EFB Team. Other teachers involved are all handpicked by Peter and will consist of internationally renowned dancers and teachers.

Course Content

Our courses are designed to support students pursuing a career in performance with a specific focus on ballet. Classical ballet education will incorporate technical tuition in adage and corps de ballet repertoire, solos, pas de deux and virtuosity.

Our Full Time Course is a 3 year HNC/HND Professional Dance Performance (SQA Higher National Diploma). The HNC is covered in the 1st year, the HND is covered in the 2nd year. This is together with the MGA Academy.

Our 3rd year, Peter Schaufuss Diploma course is EFBS's own Pre Professional Programme, propelling the student to being a professional dancer.

Beyond the basis of technical excellence, the course will nurture a wider range of skills required by the professional performers of tomorrow.

Complementary subjects will be offered, such as drama, anatomy, Yoga/Pilates as well as dance history, music and choreographic styles supported by theatre visits.

As further preparation to break into such a demanding and rewarding industry, students will be mentored in audition techniques and performance style, with the ultimate aim of achieving artistic eloquence on any stage.

As a showcase of their progress and of how their skills translate into a professional career, students will have the opportunity to give public performances of productions throughout each academic year in the iconic 'Ashton Hall' at Saint Stephen's Edinburgh.

Upon completion, graduates will be presented with an SQA Higher National Diploma & Peter Schaufuss Diploma.
